Yamaha have revealed a new XSR125 Legacy edition for 2022, which builds on the firm’s pre-existing learner legal retro roadster with fresh colours, spoked wheels and chunkier Metzeler Karoo tyres.
Available from June this year, the Legacy shares the same underpinnings as the base XSR, meaning you get a 14.8bhp 125cc single-cylinder engine equipped with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) crammed in a Deltabox chassis, roomy big bike feel, and 70s looks bearing more than a passing resemblance to the iconic RD350LC.
The most obvious change to the Legacy is the paint job, which features licks of gold with silver pin stripes across gloss black to create a design similar to the iconic JPS Lotus Formula One racers from the 1970s and 1980s.
And then there’s the golden 17in spoked rims, which replace the blacked-out cast designs on the standard machine and are said to be inspired by the firm’s race bikes of the 1960s and 1970s.
These are then wrapped with Metzeler Karoo tyres, which replace the standard IRC hoops and are claimed to compliment the retro design, thanks to their block tread pattern. We never found any issue with the original rubber, though.
Completing the design tweaks is a two-piece aluminium muffler cover, which replaces the older all-black design. This joins a raft of aluminium brackets and fittings across the machine.
To make your XSR125 Legacy your own, Yamaha have also created a range of accessories including an Akrapovic exhaust, tank pad, screen, and luggage.
